October 07, 2009
April 29, 2009 I have a handful of new shows coming up in the next month. They are all at family-friendly locations, as I am now a family man. My son and my fiancee' are likely to make an appearance at many or all of them. Here's a quick list: May 2 @ Borders Bookstore *free show* May 3 @ Springfield Artsfest May 9 @ The Front Porch More details and more upcoming shows on the "shows" page. Please bring your families, friends, and foes to a show and say hello. Yikes. Too much rhyming. Family, work, and school kept me pretty busy during the past months. I hope to schedule some more recording time in the coming months and finish the new EP. In the meantime, however, I have written a few new songs which may extend the EP into a full-length album, but let's not be too hasty. xoxo, nathaniel January 20, 2009 I'm recording a new EP entitled "The Sea Married Me." It will feature four or five songs, which will be connected to make a seamless 30+ minute experience. I don't want to use the term "progressive" or "concept," but it's a continuous album with reoccurring musical and lyrical themes. CH McCoy of Southern Hills is recording the project. In the past, my recording process has been fairly isolated, and I used to try to play all the instruments by myself. Not any more. My goal for making this record is to work together with musicians from Springfield (and across the country) to create something with which we can all be proud. I am sending out an open invitation to any musicians who would like to contribute to the record. I will post a working demo of the first track for download in the next week or two. Then, people can record their additional parts and send them back to me. Also, I am in need of some specific instrumentalists to come record with us: Trumpet, Oboe, Bassoon, Violin, French Horn, Flute, Tuba. If you or someone you know is proficient with any of these instruments, email me at nathaniel [dot] carroll [at] gmail [dot] com. xoxo, nathaniel Labels: bassoon, EP, french horn, oboe, recording, trumpet, tuba October 28, 2008 The Year Thus Far Thus far, 2008 has been quite a roller coaster. This is a good thing, because I love roller coasters. My favorite is the Screamin' Eagle at Six Flags over Saint Louis, Missouri. Thus far, in 2008, I have worked as a paralegal, welcomed my first baby boy into the world, re-enrolled in college (1 more year!), and have still not finished a new album! My eyes are bigger than my stomach, I'm told, and I have decided to reevaluate my goals for the upcoming year. Let's take a look: 1. Spend time with my family (Ongoing). 2. Release an EP (February 2009). 3. Make my fiancee' an "honest woman" (June 2009). 4. Finish school (ETA August 2009). 5. Pick a school for post-grad studies 6. Write a new record for 2010 Lately I've been interested in arranging and recording Christmas/winter songs. I will probably try to record a couple more songs for this year. Maybe I'll revive my albums from the years past and package it up properly. Maybe I'll buy in to the consumerism of the holiday season. If you see me on the street, ask me how my goals are coming along. If you don't, I'm liable to forget I set them in the first place. What are your goals for this year? Send them to me at nathaniel[dot]carroll[at]gmail[dot]com, and I'll post my favorite ones on here in the months to come. xoxo, nathaniel Labels: 2008, EP, Goals, New album, Reindeer October 15, 2008 I-hope-Obama-wins-so-we-can-have-a-post-election-bash show with Andy Zipf and Lauris Vidal on November 5, 2008! I'm playing at the Outland Ballroom on Wednesday, November 5, 2008. I believe the show is 18 and up with a $5/$7 cover. We will (hopefully) be celebrating Change in which we can believe. For those of you just tuning in, my fiancee Rebecca gave birth to our beautiful son, Soren James Carroll, on August 1, 2008. He is growing rapidly and is exceptionally alert and interactive. Much like other babies, he makes the most wonderful and strange noises. I will be collecting these sounds on tape in the coming months, and will be incorporating them into my son's first album, which is tentatively entitled "Baby's First Words" or something like that. I'm hoping to start a new movement of pretentious, avant-garde, kid-noise bands...perhaps an equal match for the screamo trend. See you on the 5th! xoxo, nathaniel April 01, 2008 E-Friends: Life seems to keep happening no matter how hard I wish it to slow down. It's almost summer time, and I'm booking a little tour at the end of May with a full band. That's right, for the first time ever, my drummer and bestee Brian Edwards will be joined by our friend Daniel Bryant of Southern Hills on bass and possibly cello. I'm cooking up some weird and exciting new sounds, and look forward to performing in your neighborhood. If you'd like to see Nathaniel Carroll & the Party Line perform in your city, please send me a message on Myspace.com/nathanielcarroll. I'm going to be recording a few more tracks for the new album in the next week or two, and I'll post them online as well. For now, check the SHOWS page for tour info. xoxo, nathaniel Labels: Britney Spears, broseph, cello, cellophane, ladies, myspace, peanut butter, Spring, tour January 07, 2008 Hello, friends! Dan Chilton of Moxie Cinema fame got me hooked on this new website for musicians and fans alike to discover the newest, best music without the bias. It's called TheSixtyOne.com and puts the power of promotion in the hands of the listener using their "bumping" system. Check out the site: While you're there, type my name into the search bar and listen to my new jams. Bump them if you like them! xoxo, nathaniel December 13, 2007 August 29, 2007 Someone broke a window in my van and stole my keyboard and guitar. I've got some leads and I've contacted Andy Griffith, so hopefully I can retrieve my livelihood. Friday's show will go on as scheduled! It's at a new venue called Front Porch, which has an in-house upright piano I can use. Joy! xoxo, nathaniel July 02, 2007 A big thank you is owed to everyone who gave us a show, a place to stay, or a small portion of their time and resources on the quick summer tour; you all made it worthwhile. We shook tambourines, broke guitar strings, rode scooters, ate birthday cake, chatted with the elderly, danced the night away, visited creepy hotels, raised money for thirsty African children, blew up balloons, and leaked engine coolant all along the way. My deepest apologies to Little Rock, AR and Tulsa, OK for the canceled shows. The Party Wagon needs a rest (and a new radiator), but we'll be back in action in no time. For now, I'm back in the daily grind, working full-time (and then some), and sporadically working on the new album. I've also started an email newsletter appropriately called "The Party Line," which I will use from time to time as a more direct source for news updates, mp3 leaks, and the new Birthday Party Line! What is the BPL, you ask? If you have signed up for the email newsletter or contact me in person with your email address, mailing address, and birthday, and I will send you a bizarre personal birthday greeting on your next birthday. No hidden fees, no contracts, no money down. Act now while supplies last! xoxo, nathaniel |
