Since I just told Chris from The Four Four, the cat's pretty much outta the bag.

    Wiki.MOrawk.com

The informal beta-testing period starts now.

Wiki.MOrawk.com runs off of Media Wiki, which is the same platform that Wikipedia uses. So if you've ever messed with wikipages, it's the same markup language. If not, Wikitext is not difficult. It's different enough from HTML to make me reference example pages fairly often, but I'm picking it up.

There's not much on there right now, so have at it. I'll need some helping setting up template pages for bands, albums, venue, individuals, so if one of you works up a good format for one of those (or finds one from another Wiki), let me know.

And like the note on the front page says, please be objective and unbiased in the entries. It's not a promotional platform. Wiki.MOrawk.com seeks to inform. And while I know you guys will have a little fun with everything, please, please, please do not be a d-bag.

Ha, I was going to wait until you were ready to go public with it. My wait is over in just minutes!
  1.
BTW, you'll need to create a separate account on the Wiki in order to create new pages.

Also, something that's been established is, when creating a page for a release, put "Album Title (album)" in the entry title. In the very least, that will help readers discern from a band page and a self-titled release, and make other releases consistent with that.

Also, if you see something linked in red, that means a page has been linked to but not yet created. You can click on it and just start typing.

And be careful about spelling, punctuation and capitalization of subject titles (and ditto when linking to pages that don't exist yet). It can be changed later, but it's a lot easier to get it right the first time.

Well, this is as public as it's going to get right now. Once some things are ironed out (template pages, consistent format decided upon, etc.) and I figure out how to set up a proper index page, it'll receive a more formal introduction.

I added some of the Geneq releases I have but I dont know how to link stuff to other pages.
  3.
All you need to do to link to other pages in the wiki is put what you want to link to (with correct caps, sp and punc) is double square brackets: [[Like this]]. If you want to link to [[Your Album Title (album)]] and you want it to display without the (album) part, put in a vertical line, like so: [[Your Album Title (album)|Your Album Title]].

    Cool?

Could the idiots/assholes stop making pages that don't make any sense or matter at all? You aren't helping. This is editable by anyone, however, just because you have the power to make a page about The Cure or some random cat on a MISSOURI MUSIC wiki site doesn't mean you should.

I'm talking to Blake and/or Mark and/or anyone else responsible. Thanks.

Have some respect for Aaron, he's done more than enough for you. Don't mock his site.
  4.
i know for a fact neither blake or i have made any pages on the wiki
    so fuck you jason<-----sarcasm

but seriously i don't care for the accusation
  5.
Thrillyidols is Blake. He has made pages.
  6.
    yeah
    i just realized that
i think blake got drunk a made a bunch of pages
    still
fuck you i haven't done anything
  7.
OK. Did he make the page about Courtney?
  8.
    Got it. Sorry homey.

I'm not mocking at all. I think the wiki is great. I was just having fun with it. Didn't know it would cause an uproar, at all. Sorry.
Also, I was sober when I did those.

okay, the wiki is obviously very serious business so i guess we better not add pages ever. because we like to be boring. hey mr IP 173.22.115.46 what have you contributed to the wiki besides deleting shit and bitching. oh wait...........nothing.

the rule of the wiki i thought was to not be d-bags. so far, jason, you're the ONLY person being a d-bag about the wiki....hm....weird.

a wiki is worth nothing without pages to read, whether or not those pages are about actual bands, or about cats owned by people in actual bands. i think it's kind of neat that there is a place on the internet where i can search "falcon punch" and find out that one of the members is nathan wall and then find out that he has two cats named after sonic youth members. that is relevant to my god damn interests.

you have infinitely more knowledge than me, jason, OBVIOUSLY, so why don't you stop deleting shit and go make some god damn wiki pages.
  9.
I've made about 20 of the pages, before the damn site was known about on this board. I thought you were going to be cool to me.

I think I'm personally going to stay away from the wiki. I don't know how to work any wiki. I've stayed away from it. Which is going to suck for me if this site ends up shutting down because the wiki has more hits than this one.

And I don't wanna fuck something up or make a page that someone will think shouldn't be put up then get yelled at about it.
  10.
Shouldn't censoring yourself and your art be the last thing you should do because of some douchebags?

I would make wiki pages if I could take the time to figure it out. All in good time, i guess.

PS - Blake, I love your pages. Sorry if you got a dose of drunken Shawn tonight. He so rarely emerges lately that he gets kind of out of control.

considering i ran a house for like a year with a name based around my cat that did shows, cats are very relevant to a missouri music wiki.

besides, random shit like that adds flavor to what might seem boring to someone who's been involved with music here for awhile and already knows every member of so and so's band and what they released. it doesn't necessarily detract from the seriousness of the endeavor. i mean lots of super serious political blogs i read often have posts about their pets randomly thrown in. i think at a certain point it might get out of hand, but until that point we should see what happens.
  11.
Come on. Do we really need a page about a random album from the Cure? That's out of hand.
  12.
Alright, there you go, everyone - now you have pages about celery, the Nintendo Entertainment System, farts, pizza, Slayer, and stupidity. Now go jump off a building.

I think I ODed on drunken shawn tonight. My heart stopped and I had to be revived.

Drunk Shawn tweaked my nipples and said "There's plenty more where that came from." It was like a scene where Hank Hill blushes, then feels awkward and confused.

Thanks for the wiki! And could you guys take some of your respective moms' ritalin and stop being so awful to each other on my computer screen? I wish there were a way to whisper little irritating things to each other...

so i added some things, but are there going to be like any rules on prominence like on wikipedia? i wanted to add a lot of house venues (well i did to the page but didn't make pages for them).
  15.
I'm not sure I understand what you mean by "rules on prominence."

As far as active venues, I think it would be beneficial to provide information that would be helpful in booking (contact info, if they require a demo, sound setup, etc.) along with the basic information that you'd also find on closed/inactive venues.

I'd also expect to see some sort of short historical look back on the closed/inactive venues.

I guess what really needs to happen, which I mentioned before, is creating templates that will provide a basic outline of the essential information for these type of things (venues, former venues, bands, albums, etc.). We can start hashing that out here on the Board.
